The bamboo pipe is a fairly common item found in various places throughout the series. It allows the casting of the JIG spell, which causes the victims to uncontrollably dance to exhaustion. It is an extremely effective non-lethal means of defeating most enemies, but can also become lethal if the player wants it to be.

At times you can also play the pipe without casting JIG, and it can also be used as a long thin instrument at various points.

Locations[]

Sorcery![]

  • Sold in Cantopani shop for 3 gp.
  • Searching longer through the Pilfergrass outside of the Elvin Village provides you with a random item which can be a pipe (though it can be other things too). Be weary that you will lose your gold, and an item.

Sorcery! 2[]

  • At the music fair, mess up the music by casting NIF or DOZ to obtain one.
  • The medium prize from the Cabinet of Fortune is a bamboo pipe if you don't already own a bamboo pipe.
  • "Sold" by the kleptomaniac gnome in the fallen quarter. Be careful as you will lose a random item.

Sorcery! 3[]

  • In Elthera's cave in the present if the rockfall happened in the past and if you already own a black facemask but not a pipe
  • Can be looted from Manata if you don't already own one
  • In the basement of the temple of Throff if you already own a black facemask but not a pipe.

Sorcery! 4[]

  • Can be looted from a merchant driving a cart if you don't already own one.
  • Can be looted from the guard sleeping in the dormitory if you don't already own one.
  • There is one in the DUM tower

Uses[]

Sorcery![]

  • JIG can cause attacking bandits to dance back to town, or off a cliff.
  • JIG while fighting the giant bat to make it leave you alone.
  • play it in the green hut in the elvin village to heal 3 hp and avoid the negative effects of the hut.
  • JIG while fighting the roachpig to make it leave you alone
  • JIG while fighting Alianna and her wood golem to escape.
  • JIG while fighting the wolfhound to make it leave you alone

Sorcery! 2[]

  • Used to search inside Moulas's mouth without getting your hands dirty (though this is not useful)
  • JIG the poachers and they will allow you to sit with them
  • JIG while fighting the thug to make him go away OR twist his ankle (you can then loot 2 gp and 3 gambling chips off him)
  • JIG at the music fair to help the musicians. You will get a unique interaction with Jeera, who gives you useful information relating to your quest and will invite you to the Meat and Cleaver in the evening.
  • JIG while fighting the Flayer to escape OR use the opportunity to steal from him. In the latter case you can take a gold-backed mirror or 2 gp if you already have one, but the Flayer will attack you dealing 3 damage.
  • Open the secret passage in Theetah's mansion
  • JIG Vangorn's spider to get it off you
  • JIG the guards by the graffiti to make them leave you alone
  • JIG the red eyes to make them leave you alone
  • JIG the plagued woman. This has no useful effect
  • JIG while fighting the slime eater in the sewers to get passed it
  • JIG the goblin army to make a few of them dance. However, the rest still overwhelm you

Sorcery! 3[]

  • Collect honey from a statue. In theory you should also be able to collect beeswax but this is bugged and you do not gain any beeswax. You can abandon your pipe here, in which case you will be able to collect it at a later point unless you obtained a different pipe in the meantime.
  • JIG while fighting Bria's ROK spell. This does not work and may result in death.
  • JIG while fighting the Butcher to defeat her and steal her meat.
  • JIG while fighting the Baddu Beetle to make it leave you alone
  • JIG the buried thief to make him easier to find
  • JIG Manata. Manata has beeswax in his ears and is therefore immune. However, he will strike up a conversation about magical music.
  • You may try to trade your pipe to Manata. He refuses on account of his own pipe being better.
  • You may play the pipe when the Fire serpent ambushes you and tries to steal your pack. However, this has no effect because music is not its weakness.
  • JIG while fighting the Moon serpent. This has no effect.
  • JIG while ambushed by Klattamen at night. Strangely, the Klattamen are immune to its effects.
  • JIG while in front of the Klatta-Bak Steppes beacon. This has no effect.
  • JIG can kill the time serpent if encountered in The Klatta-Bak Steppes after having cast MAG
  • When encountering the fire serpent in the forest of Snatta, you may attempt to play yor pipe if you had previously observed Manata playing his pipe to his snakes. However, you are unable to imitate Manata and this has no effect.
  • JIG while sinking into the swamp. This kills you.
  • You may throw your pipe at the bell on the island with Ybran's shrine, though it will then fall in the water and be lost.
  • JIG while fighting the roachpig to make it leave you alone

Sorcery! 4[]

  • JIG while fighting the Ratbear to make it leave you alone
  • JIG while fighting the guards in the warehouse to defeat them. However, the noise will alert the captain to your location.
  • JIG while fighting the captain in the warehouse. The captain has cast MAG so will be unaffected by your spells UNLESS you have already countered MAG. In that case, JIG will incapacitate the captain and optionally allow you to kill and loot her.
  • JIG Cartoum to defeat him.
  • JIG while fighting goblins with Ranii. Although the flavour text indicates that this should help, there is actually no difference.
  • JIG while in the mess hall. The guards love it and will continue dancing and partying after you've ended the spell. This leads to a unique interaction which notably teaches you the song of the Sleepless Ram.
