Commander Catroum is a character in Sorcery! 4. He is the commander of the Mampang guard who aims to overthrow the Archmage.

Plotting[]
Cartoum ascended to the rank of Commander, possibly the highest possible rank in the Mampang guard. Little is known of his background besides that he is in love with an absent woman named Celestine.
Catroum broke through the influence of the Crown of Kings when he noticed that Mampang suffered under the current Archmage. He decided to try and overthrow him somehow, and recruited the guard and thief Ranii to search for the Crown so he could remove it from the Archmage. Bria foretold to him that the Archmage will be overthrown one day, giving him hope.
Meeting[]
The Analander may meet Cartoum from his usual post in his office outside the Fortress of Sorcerers. This encounter often happens because they have been arrested or will be arrested. They may learn about Celestine or something of Cartoum's plans.
Victory![]
If the Analander learned of Cartoum's plot, when they retrieve or destroy the Crown of Kings and retreat to the roof, Cartoum will be visible at the head of the army that does not seem to want to fight any more. A Samaritan of Schinn will appear suddenly, asking the Analander to come down and speak with him. If the Analander goes, Cartoum will be grateful for the success. He will refuse the Crown if the Analander tries to offer it to him, calling it too powerful, and will see them off happily.
If the Archmage is killed and the Analander or Valiquesh does not take control, the epilogue states that the people of Mampang rose up and became free under the guidance and leadership of Cartoum.
Personality[]
Cartoum has the sharpness and professionalism expected of a Commander. His motives can be deceptive and it is not always immediately apparent that he seeks the Crown of Kings not to take it for himself but to end the Archmage's tyranny.
Abilties[]
Cartoum is a skilled fighter who uses a Longsword in battle. He is also intelligent enough to have thought his way out of the Crown of Kings' influence, reasoning that the Archmage's reign is doing Mampang bad.
Trivia[]
- Cartoum is based on a character from the original gamebook who was a captain of the guard. However, his plot to stop the Archmage is an invention of the adaption.
