Sand is a magical item used to cast mUD, creating quicksand. Sand is listed in the inventory as a Pouch of Sand. MUD is a pretty powerful spell, able to defeat fairly powerful enemies. It is however, completely ineffective against flying opponents, and you must also be careful not to cast it on yourself because it is capable of killing the player character.

Locations[]

Sorcery![]

  • 1 is found in Alianna's house if you choose to steal from her instead of helping her.

Sorcery! 2[]

  • The rewards for killing Moulas should in theory include sand based on dialogue. But these awards are actually bugged! If you already own sand when collecting the award, not only will you not collect an award, but your sand will be lowered down to 1.
  • 1 is sold by the dwarf merchant as a Vial of Dust for 3 gp; it shows up as a Pouch of Sand in the inventory once bought
  • 1 is obtained at the fair in the evening, by letting the women hit you.

Sorcery! 3[]

  • 1 in the fireplace by fishtail rock
  • 1 by killing the centaurs
  • 2 can be found if you go into a sandstorm while being chased by the Fire serpent
  • 1 in the fire in Kariamma
  • 1 In the tunnel north of Kariamma
  • 1 by killing the Klattamen who attack you at night
  • 1 by foraging in the forest of Snatta. Beware! Red ants will attack you and can kill you if you do not get rid of them.
  • 1 on the shore of lake Ilkalala

Sorcery! 4[]

  • 2 in the latrine
  • 2 at the entrance of the Western College of Magic
  • 4 in the FOF tower. This option is only available if you have 2 or less sand.
  • 2 in the MUD tower after having drained the swamp. This option is only availbale if you have less than 10 sand.
  • 1 in the hourglass in the ZED tower... Beware, this action has big consequences and shouldn't be used just as a cheap way to obtain sand!

Uses[]

Sorcery![]

  • MUD the Manticore to deal 4 damage to it

Sorcery! 2[]

  • MUD the south gate guards to kill them. This does not count as murder for some reason (probably a bug)
  • MUD the chainmaker to kill him. Alternatively, you can rescue him from the spell which will make him friendly: he will give you information and also lower the price of his magic chain from 5 gp to 2gp.
  • MUD the man with the green-haired big to kill him. This counts as murder.
  • MUD the bat. This has no effect because the bat can fly.
  • MUD the sprite and pixie fight in dwarftown to kill both contestants and start a brawl with the dwarves. This does not count as murder.
  • MUD the magical paintbrush to immediately kill it.
  • MUD the fish in the fountain to kill it (it's a bit overkill).
  • MUD the slaver's dog to kill it
  • MUD the aggressive red eye youths to kill them (this doesn't count as murder)
  • MUD the slime eater in the warehouse to kill it
  • MUD Ericius, Lorag's pet bristlebeast. If Lorag is present, this will kill Ericius, but if Lorag is away, Ericius will avoid the quicksand and the spell will have no effect.
  • MUD the giant brass statue to defeat it
  • MUD the harpies. This has no effect because the harpies can fly.
  • MUD the greedy well to destroy it
  • MUD the deathwraith. This has no effect because the deathwraith can float.
  • MUD the goblins in the sewers. This has no effect because the water washes your sand away before the spell takes hold.
  • MUD the goblin army as they are entering through the north gate. This will delay them and give you time to do something more effective.
  • MUD the goblin army once they are inside the city to kill 6 or 7 of them. (there are too many for this to make a difference)

Sorcery! 3[]

  • MUD the nighthawks. This has no effect because the nighthalks can fly.
  • MUD the rock demon. This has no effect.
  • MUD the whirlwind. This has no effect.
  • MUD the ruins of the second beacon to either bury them or to uncover the blue teleport crystal.
  • MUD the centaurs to kill the first one.
  • MUD the Baddu Beetle. This has no effect.
  • MUD Manata. If you are outside the pit, this will kill Manata and counts as murder. If you are inside the pit, you will also die.
  • throw some at the fire serpent when he tries to steal your backpack to severely weaken him.
  • MUD the fire serpent when he tries to steal your backpack. This has no effect as the fire serpent can fly.
  • MUD the buried thief to either rescue him or kill him.
  • Throw at the snake in the well. This option is only available if you know the Fire serpent's weakness. However, it has no effect because this is just an ordinary snake and not the Fire serpent.
  • MUD the 7 spirits. This has no effect because the 7 spirits can hover.
  • MUD Flanker to kill him. This counts as murder, though you can loot his assassin's blade.
  • MUD Fenestra. She will counter the spell.
  • throw some at the Fire Serpent when encountering him in the forest of Snatta to severely weaken him. Alternatively you can use 2 portions to outright kill the Fire Serpent. You do have to be in the tree for this to work because if you are on the ground you won't be able to reach the Fire Serpent. If you try the sand before the Fire Serpent has transformed, it will also have no effect (but you get to keep your sand in this case)
  • MUD the marsh eater. This has no effect because the ground is already marsh.
  • MUD while in the pit created by the Earth Serpent. This will kill you.
  • MUD while fighting the Earth Serpent outside the pit will allow you to grab it and then kill it.
  • MUD the big fish in Lake Ilkalala. This has no effect because the water is too deep.
  • throw sand at the Water Serpent. This has no effect because sand is not the Water Serpent's weakness.

Sorcery! 4[]

  • MUD the troll to kill it.
  • MUD the birdmen in the crater. This has no effect because the birdmen can fly.
  • MUD the gates of Mampang. This will kill a horse but not give you access; you may retreat in the confusion.
  • MUD the guards at the sidegate of Mampang to kill them.
  • MUD the sleeping guard in the dormitary to kill him. This counts as murder.
  • MUD the guards in the barracks. You can kill them or spare them, in which case you get some dialogue from Filbia (one of the guards)
  • MUD while in Throgg's pot to turn out the fire and escape.
  • MUD the sleeping farmer to kill him.
  • MUD while being chased by guards to escape from them.
  • MUD while fighting the guards by the warehouse. You will be hit by ZAP but escape.
  • MUD the Samaritans of Schinn to kill them.
  • MUD while fighting goblins with Ranii. Although the flavour text indicates that this should help, there is actually no difference.
  • MUD the Mucalytic above the Vault to kill it.
  • MUD the FOF tower to counter it.
  • MUD the DUD tower to remove the treasure from it.
  • MUD in the MUD tower. This has no effect because it's already casting MUD.
  • MUD in the JIG tower. This kill 2 dancers which has no overall effect on the room.
  • MUD the 2nd Throben door. This will kill you.
  • MUD the 4th Throben door. This will kill you unless you run away or try to jump through the door (both of which are also dangerous)
  • MUD Flanker. Flanker will dodge the attack.
