Vik is an highly influential resident of Kharé, a slave trader and aspiring First Noble. His brother is Vangorn.
Biography[]
Allies[]
Vik was initally an ally of Glandragor. He abandoned him in the Shamutanti Hills and left him for dead.
Scheming in Kharé[]
Vik runs a slave trade in Kharé, capturing unsuspecting people in the night. He has a band of werewolfs transformed from people he has captured. He aims to take over from Sansas in his absence as First Noble.
"Vik for First Noble!"[]
Actually encountering Vik in Kharé is unusual, but his presence is well-felt. The first night that the Analander sleeps outside in Kharé, they were attacked by a werewolf which, once killed, revealed itself as actually human and part of Vik's army. Throughout Kharé, people may mention Vik favourably or in disgust, with those with a positive image of him parroting the phrase "Vik for First Noble!" that is well-known among his followers.
The Analander may have met him in person when they were captured by his slavers, using Glandragor's name to win his trust. The two had a frank conversation before he saw them off.
It is later revealed while in the Baklands that Vik has become the First Noble and threw open the North Gate for good.
Ambitions in Mampang[]
Vik can be met once more in Mampang. If the marsh goblin attack was thwarted by the Analander, he has now become First Noble; otherwise, the goblins took his place and Vik is a mere merchant trying to make his way after losing almost everything to their invasion. If he is First Noble, he is trying to establish relations with Mampang as a representative of Kharé, and the Analander can hear about a weak spot on wolf armour used to defend Mampang's riches in a vault from him.
The Analander could also have impersonated Vik to gain entry into the Archmage's fortress as a figure of authority.
Personality[]
Vik is quite conniving and power-hungry. He has high ambitions to become the First Noble and be on top in Kharé, running a slave ring for power and influence. Several of his guards call his behaviour 'crazy', but reminiscent of Sansas' rise to power. He shows some guilt over his transformed wolf army, claiming he only turned as many people as he 'needed', and dismissing the Analander entirely if they try to question his morals. However, he is ultimately considered far less harmful than the very real danger the marsh goblins posed to Kharé, simply a symptom of what Kharé is at its core than something to threaten it.
Abilities[]
Vik has a volley of supporters across Kharé and the strength of his wolves to prop him up.
Trivia[]
- Vik is far more antagonistic in the video game adaption of Sorcery! than he was in the original gamebooks.
